Learning Objectives

Introduction

Engage students by asking them to listen to different words and identify which one has more syllables. Discuss the importance of recognizing syllable differences in words.

Explicit Instruction/Teacher modeling

Present an example question: "Listen to each word. Which one has more syllables? Banana or king?" Demonstrate the key idea that words are made up of syllables, each with one vowel sound. Use the clapping technique and counting jaw drops to show the syllables in words. Model comparing the words "hamburger" and "banana" in terms of syllables, showing that "hamburger" has 3 syllables and "banana" also has 3 syllables. Conclude by stating that the word "banana" has more syllables than the word "king."
